We love our brothers and sisters at Restoration City Church in Hampton, GA. We celebrate with them today as they begin their blog for women. Be looking out for more posts from them as we begin blog sharing!
First things first, answer these two questions for me:
1. Who is Jesus Christ?
2. Who are you?
However you just answered these questions determines how you live in your life
daily. If you are a Christian, you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who came to
earth as the God-Man (both fully God and fully human) in order to reconcile His broken
and sinful creation to Him by dying on a cross and rising again on the third day.
If you are a Christian, you are a daughter of the Living God and justified in His
sight by His Son, Jesus Christ. You have received the Holy Spirit and listen to His wisdom
and speak boldly of the restorative power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you are a Christian, you also know how easily you forget these things. You fall
into the mundane and hypnotic rhythm of each day, bound by schedule and routine.
You wake up in the morning, loathing the reflected image in the mirror, wishing you
could look like HER. You visit dear friends, your brothers and sisters, and find yourself
thinking if only I had their big house, their well-behaved kids, and their thriving
relationship, then I would be happy…
You can throw yourself into your work, doing the very most and very best in
order to gain approval from your supervisors and managers. You stay late; come in
early; take on every additional task to prove yourself to one day get that position you’ve
been seeking. Then, you’ll be happy. Or you throw yourself into your family, believing
that if you just spend enough quality time with your kids, doing all the right and good
things with them, then they will turn out perfectly and be a wonderful reflection of your
superb parenting skills. Then, you’ll be happy.
Here’s the funny thing about happiness—it’s fleeting. It’s completely dependent
on your circumstances. When you ask your husband to pick up dinner, he can surprise
you with a bouquet of your favorite flowers and take you and the family to a fun night
out—you’re happy. Your kids behaved well in school and got all A’s on their report
cards—you’re happy. Your boss at work finally noticed all of your hard work and
promoted you—you’re happy.
You’re happy because other people pleased you and performed to your ideal
expectations in a given circumstance.
Because, really, your husband stormed into the house, coping from an awful day
at work and forgot to pick up dinner and now you’re stuck eating leftover meatloaf. All
of your kids ended up in the principal’s office for fighting with each other, and they
ended up with several failing grades. Your boss didn’t see the value in your position and
The point is that the things in this world—these broken and sinful things—will
NOT make you happy or fulfill you. We believe these lies of our society and of our hearts
so easily over the truth of the gospel.
The purpose of the Women’s Blog at RCC is to guide women into the confident
knowledge of who Jesus is and who they are, and how to combat the things that tell us
We will begin with a blog series called “Who Told You Otherwise?” It will dive
into the depths of our sinful culture and sinful hearts in order to understand why we so
quickly forget the gospel. Then, we will always go back to Jesus and the authority of the
Bible to see how we live in our society as confident believers and lovers of the Word of
Jesus, you are our Savior, the One who delivered us from evil. You are true and
righteous. You always provide for us. Holy Spirit, I ask that you will open the ears and
hearts of the women reading to listen and understand the power of the gospel.
Continue to sanctify us to become more like Jesus Christ, our Lord and King. We love
